Love's Labour's Won: Royal Shakespeare Company BD

Christopher Luscombe's 2015 Royal Shakespeare Company production of the national bard's comedy which sees soldiers Claudio Tunji Kasim and Benedick Edward Bennett battling to win the hearts of those they love. The object of Benedick's desire, Beatrice Michelle Terry, acts as his sharp-tongued sparring partner, while Claudio's path to true love is obstructed by the meddling of the embittered Don John Sam Alexander.

Siegfried: La Fura Dels Baus DVD

A visually spectacular interpretation of Wagner's opera, staged by the Catalan theatre company La Fura dels Baus, in Valencia's Palau de les Arts. Zubin Mehta conducts the Orquesta de la Comunitat Valenciana, with performances by Jennifer Wilson, Juha Uusitalo, Franz-Josef Kapellmann and Catherine Wyn-Rogers.

Alfred Brendel: On Music DVD

The celebrated pianist presents three lectures held at the Salzburg festival in 2010. Respectively entitled 'Does Classical Music Have to Be Entirely Serious', 'Musical Characters As Exemplified in Beethoven's Piano Sonatas' and 'Light and Shade of Interpretation', the talks are illustrated with musical excerpts from Beethoven, Mozart, Haydn, Handel and Schubert, among others.

Schumann: At Pier 2 - The Symphonies BD

Paavo Jrvi and the Deutsche Kammerphilharmoniker Bremen perform all four Schumann Symphonies at Pier 2, a former dockyard in Bremen harbour that is usually the site of rock and pop concerts. The featured works are Symphony No. 1, Op. 38 Symphony No. 2, Op. 61 Symphony No. 3, Op. 97 and Symphony No. 4, Op. 120. The set also includes a documentary explaining the idea behind the project, as well as rehearsal footage and comments from Paavo Jrvi about the symphonies and the interpretation.

Paths Through the Labyrinth: The Composer Krzysztof Penderecki DVD

Documentary about Polish composer Krzysztof Penderecki. Director Anna Schmidt follows Penderecki over the course of a year as he travels to locations such as Munich and Vienna and journeys to his home in Luslawice. The film features extracts from his works, archive material and interviews with the composer and those who know him including Anne-Sophie Mutter, Julian Rachlin, Janine Jansen, Jonny Greenwood and Andrzej Wajda.

Richard Strauss: Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra BD

Andris Nelsons conducts the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in this collection featuring two performances of Strauss's works, 'Also Sprach Zarathustra', recorded in 2013, and 'Till Eulenspiegel', recorded in 2014.

I Due Foscari: Parma Festival DVD

Richard Strauss: Last Songs/An Alpine Symphony DVD

Christian Thielemann conducts the Staatskapelle Dresden in this performance of Strauss's 'Four Last Songs' and 'An Alpine Symphony'. Featuring soprano Anja Harteros, the concert also includes Strauss's final song 'Malven' with a newly-commissioned orchestral arrangement.

Marc Minkowski conducts Les Musiciens du Louvre in this performance of Mozart's cantata, recorded at Salzburg's Felsenreitschule during the 2015 Mozart Week Festival. The performance features the Acadmie questre de Versailles, choreographed by Bartabas, with soprano Christiane Karg, mezzo-soprano Marianne Crebassa, tenor Stanislas de Barbeyrac and the Salzburger Bachchor.

Faust: Teatro Regio Di Torino DVD

Gianandrea Noseda conducts the Teatro Regio Torino Orchestra and Chorus in this performance of Gounod's opera. Charles Castronovo plays the title character, an elderly scholar who despite his success remains dissatisfied and restless. When the demonic Mphistophls Ildar Abdrazakov appears and lures Faust into signing a deal that will return him to his youthful state in exchange for his services in Hell using the tempting image of a young woman, Marguerite Vasilij Ladjuk, Faust accepts. Now transformed into a handsome young man, Faust sets out to find the entrancing young woman with the treacherous Mphistophls in tow.

Schubert: The Trout/The Greatest Love and the Greatest Sorrow DVD

A double bill of Christopher Nupen films on the life and music of composer Franz Schubert. 'The Trout' 1969, is a film about five musicians, Daniel Barenboim, Itzhak Perelman, Pinchas Zuckerman, Jacqueline Du Pre and Zubon Mehta, who got together to play Schubert's 'Trout Quintet'. It also captures the week leading up to the final performance, plus the complete performance in the new Queen Elizabeth Hall on August 30th 1969. 'The Greatest Love and the Greatest Sorrow' 1994 tells the story of the life of Schubert almost entirely through the music he wrote in the last months of his life.

He goes on to make 'Bride of the Monster', also a commercial and creative disaster, with ailing horror star Bela Lugosi Martin Landau, before embarking on his most grandiose scheme yet 'Plan 9 from Outer Space'. Martin Landau won a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his portrayal of the morphine-addicted Lugosi.
