Treat Williams and Laura Dern star in this drama directed by Joyce Chopra. 15-year-old Connie Wyatt Dern spends her summer flirting with boys and shopping at the mall with her friends when she's not sulking around her family home. While she's out one day, she sees a mysterious older man Williams watching her. He calls himself Arnold Friend and claims to know all about her, and his behaviour makes her uneasy. When he appears at her house, he threatens her family unless she agrees to go for a drive with him.
