The opera tells the story of a troubadour Bejun Mehta who has an affair with his employer Christopher Purves's wife Agns Barbara Hannigan. When her husband finds out he kills the troubadour and feeds Agns his heart, unbeknown to her. When she discovers what she has done she is driven to suicide.
